Following our little stop in the mountains we headed to a town called Flores. A beautiful town on an island in the middle of a lake. Similar cobble stone streets to Antigua and houses compressed together in a haphazard fashion. The place had been turned into a nice place to visit with a walkway around the entire town which only took about 20 min walk.

We jagged a great hotel for the amazing price of $11 US per night. It was right near the water, a proper hotel room with a bathroom, and a balcony that looked out over the water. We had a few nice dinners here, a walk around and bought a few souvenirs. With not much to do in the town 2 days was plenty.
Out of town was a different story, we headed out at 430am one morning to go to the Tikal ruins, some more ancient Mayan ruins in a giant national park.

After a quick breakfast we headed into the park with our guide, Cesar, the Guatemalan with a very distinct New York accent (he lived there for 20 years). As we walked into the thick jungle on cleared paths howler monkeys screamed above us. They make one hell of a noise marking out their territories. Makes me wish we had gone camping in the jungle some where one night.
As we continued on the tour we saw plenty of wildlife, monkeys, toucans, lemurs (we think) and some very bright colored turkeys.
The path we were taken on showed us ever growing pyramids and our guide explained how society operated in those days.
The final city scape was amazing, so large and completely abandoned, being made from lime stone the rain and weather constantly ate away, continuous reconstruction was occurring to preserve the site as much as possible.
