Northern Rivers Virus

It seems we have contracted a well known virus in these parts, It makes you lazy and not want to do much, your hair and beard grow long and the days are filled with sleeping eating and surfing and not much else.
Local towns of Byron Bay and Nimbin are infested with it, it will certainly be hard to break away as it is very nice here.

We have been pretty lazy and enjoying rest in these parts while we complete preparations on the van and look to our next part of our trip.
Here is a rough itinerary for the next few months, but as always subject to change.

Sept - Oct Heading north visiting my family all the way up to bundaberg, surfing all the way
Oct - Nov Returning and finishing up back at Evens Head for a few weeks
Nov  Hawaii for 2 weeks surfing and treking
Dec Canada for 2 weeks skiing
Dec Chicago for Christmas with my brother and his family
Jan - Feb South America Treking in Peru, Surfing in Costa Rica, Partying in Brazil

So looking forward to meeting up with family and friends as we travel all over the world. If any of you are planning a trip that comes close to us let us know.

The Start of our Travels - East Coast of OZ

So our trip begins....
The first leg of our journey was always going to be some surfing up the coast, hopefully traveling in a van, which we planned on hiring. After some consideration we looked at some used vans and  landed on the "Red Rocket" the 96 model ex postie van. With some roof racks for boards added we were ready to head out. A quaint little van with enough room and comfort for two, life wasn't going to be fast that's for sure.
The Red Rocket

The first night was a very short leg staying at One Mile beach, a failure of our gas stove straight up left us with no heat for dinner, but Cos showed me her camping skills and quickly had a fire going and dinner on.
It dawned on us how only weeks before I had been a manager at a large organisation living in 3 bedroom house with a pool and driving a new car, now I was cooking my dinner on a fire in a car park at the beach and sleeping in an old van.......life is much better now.
Ravioli at One Mile Beach

As we made our way north the surf didn't provide much for us at Light House beach, Seal Rocks, or South West Rocks. The first decent surf was at Crescent Heads which dished up a nice 1ft long Mal wave just in time. Definitely worth a visit and some where I will be back too.

It took us a week to get to Evens Head a journey of only 700kms, pace was high.
Spending the next week in Evens Head with family we had some fun Mal surf day after day, but we are certainly overdue for some bigger waves.

Hopefully there is some due on the weekend..........
